Highlands International School maintains a high standard in education. It is our goal to have all EFL students not more than two grade levels behind. Therefore, the student’s progress will be monitored throughout the year, and parents will be informed as to the progress being made.

HIS has a range of admissions requirements for EFL students.

Senior High, Grades 9 – 12:

Potential students should score no lower than Intermediate High level in reading and Intermediate Low in oral language.

Middle School, Grades 5 – 8:

Potential students should score no lower than Intermediate Low in reading.

Elementary School, Grades K4 – 4:

There is not generally a language proficiency requirement.

If a student does not qualify to attend Highlands International School based on the EFL test given, they may retake the test after a period of one month. It is recommended that the student be enrolled in a local English institute in order to increase their English language proficiency before retaking the test.

Other qualifiers used by HIS for admitting EFL students:
        -  Transcripts from their previous school(s).
        -  References from the previous school(s). (Teacher, Principal, Counselor)
        -  Number of EFL students in the proposed classroom.
        -  Other information indicating the student’s potential to learn English quickly is high.

All EFL students that score on novice level will be placed on an EFL contract. The contract will be an agreement between the school, parent, and student to ensure enough progress will be made over the course of the next four semesters for the student to gain sufficient English knowledge to continue in the regular classroom.
