Worship Team

The Highlands worship team is made up of Highlands high school students, ranging from grades 9-12, both instrumentalists and vocalists. In addition to worship-thru-music, however, the team is learning - and leading - in other aspects of worship, including the corporate reading of scriptures, responsive readings and corporate prayer. During classes, the team discusses scripture passages about worship, the various flavors of worship throughout different parts of the Christian year and the many aspects of worship - musical, spoken and visual. Beginning second quarter, the team is serving on mini-teams for the purpose of planning musical selections for services as well as the spoken and visual aspects of chapel worship. As other gifts become apparent (songwriting, solos or songleading, for example), these gifts will be encouraged and fostered to as great a degree as possible. Grades are given for participation in class, chapel services and occasional sectional practices before lunch. Sometimes, grades will also be given for quizzes on important topics such as reading music in English and Spanish, the seasons of the Christian calendar and various major figures - past and present - in areas of Christian worship.
